´But to as many as did receive and welcome Him, He gave the right [the authority, the privilege] to become children of God, that is, to those who believe in (adhere to, trust in, and rely on) His name. — John 1:12 AMP

The problem is, that people do not know who they are. They need someone to tell them who they are. Many people are so lost; and without their job title, degree, family status, or bank account status, they could not state in one sentence what makes them them. They could not identify themselves.

This is the big issue. This is the problem of this world, that people stopped thinking, let others think for them, and have forgotten their relationship with our Father in Heaven. Therefore, people are lost in all possible ways and look for salvation in all possible ways and forms; in promotions, substances, excessively going out, and looking for relationships in all kinds of forms. People act so lost, like a lost child, because they are.

And this is exactly how the devil operates, through insecurity and unawareness of people, through lack of knowledge. This is where sin enters the hearts of men.

God. Our identity is in the LORD Jesus Christ. What does this mean? That we are unconditionally loved, so much so, that God sent his one and only son, who died once and for all for all of our sins, so that we can have again a relationship with our Father in Heaven. Our identity is in the LORD Jesus Christ.
